WHY PASTURE RAISED?
A HEALTHY FARM MEANS HEALTHY FOOD.
As we set out on our journey to raise the healthiest, most ethically-raised meats available, it quickly became clear that a sustainable, regenerative, pasture-based system was for us. The pasture-based farming system is based upon raising the animals in their natural habitat - on grass pastures, moving them regularly to fresh grass, and allowing them to fertilize and disturb the soils throughout the process, followed by a period of rest, during which the pasture regenerates. Many national studies have proven there are several health benefits to consuming meats raised on pasture over the large-scale, concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO) common in today’s industrialized food system.
Meat from animals raised on pasture tends to be higher in iron, Omega 3s, have a lower Omega 6:3 ratio, have higher levels of antioxidants (vitamin E), and lower levels of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. In addition to the benefits from the meat, pasture-raised eggs, when compared to conventionally-raised eggs, show an increased level of vitamins D, B12, A, E, less cholesterol, less saturated fat, a higher level of Omega 3 fatty acids and beta carotene.
